Introduction to the School of Mathematics and Statistics

The predecessor of the School of Mathematics and Statistics of Chongqing Jiaotong University is theFundamentalDepartment of Chongqing Jiaotong University. It was renamed the School of Science in July 2006 and was renamed the School of Mathematics and Statistics in May 2015. The college currently has one master degree program in system science and three undergraduate majors in information and computing science, mathematics and applied mathematics, and applied statistics. There are two key construction disciplines in the school—applied mathematics, control science and engineering. Currently, the college undertakes more thantwentymathematics courses for undergraduates, masters and doctoral students.

The college currently hasseventyfaculty members, includingfifty-fivefull-time teachers. Among the full-time teachers, there areelevenprofessors,twenty-nighassociate professors,twodoctoral supervisors,twenty-nighmaster supervisors, andthirty-fiveteachers with doctoral degree. There are alsoonefamous teacher in Chongqing Talents Program,oneacademic and technical leaderofChongqing,fouryoung and middle-aged backbone teachersofChongqing,onefamous teacherofChongqing,twoBayu scholars (including young scholars), andeight MathSciNet reviewersin the college. Besides there are one teacher inthe list ofElsevier 2014-2018 China Highly Cited Scholars, and one Clarivate Analytics global “Highly Cited Scientist” in 2019.

In the past five years, the college has successfully established more thanthirtyundergraduate teaching engineering projects at all levels, published more thanfiftyteaching research papers, presided overthirteenNational Natural Science Foundation projects, with a total project funding of more thansixmillionRMB, and wonafirst prize of Chongqing Natural Science Award ,oneprovincial and ministerial science and technology progress award,twonatural science outstanding academic paper awards from Chongqing Science and Technology Association, published more thanthree hundredsacademic papers, of which more thanone hundred and sixtyare included in SCI.

The collegepays much attention toacademic exchanges and has a strong academic atmosphere. In the past five years, the college has hosted and co-organized more thanteninternational and domestic academic conferences. The teachers of the college participated in more thanone hundredinternational and domestic academic exchanges, and invited domestic and foreign experts to come to the school for more thansixtyacademic exchanges.

The college attaches great importance to personnel training, and the quality of students is steadily improved. In the past five years, our students have participated infifteenprovincial and ministerial-level scientific research projects andeighteenschool-level scientific research projects. In various discipline competitions, they have won more thanfour hundredawards, includingfourfirst prizes andtensecond prizes in the country,eighty-sixprovincial and ministerial first prizes,onehundredand seventy-nighsecond prizes, andone hundred and twenty-onethird prizes; published more thanthirtyacademic papers, including more thantencore journal papers such as SCI papers; the employment rate of graduates exceedsnighty-five percentper year, the rate of master degreeentranceis abouttwenty percent.

Regarding tothe development opportunities and challenges under the newera, the college takes discipline construction as the leader, teaching as the centertask, strengthens the construction of the teaching staff, improves the quality of talent training, andconstructsthe collegefora target with characteristics inChongqingand a certain influence in the country.
